Safari not responding is a common issue faced by Mac Safari users. They find that the web browser has become unresponsive for an extended period of time with a spinning multi-color beach ball cursor. The user may see a message “Safari Web Process (Not Responding)” in Activity Monitor in Mac OS and Mac OS X.

Ways to fix Safari not responding issue

Let us see some of the easy and proven fixes for the issue Safari not responding:

Quit Safari and Re-launch it

This is the simplest fix you can try. Just quit out of Safari and re-open it. Try to load the page again. This method fixes the issue most of the time.

The Force Quit and Re-launch

Many times Safari becomes so unresponsive that you cannot quit it from the File menu. Force Quitting is required in this situation:

  • Press Command+Option+Escape. A Force Quit menu will appear.
  • Click on “Safari” “Force Quit”
  • After a minute, Safari will be forced to exit and the system recovers.
  • Re-launch Safari and start  browsing as usual
