Welcome, I would like to highlight a number of points in a series about the church of Efezen. To encourage you who hear and read this. We read in various places about the municipality of Ephezen. And actually the reason why I want to do this is because when I read Revelations at one of the 7 churches mentioned by John, I came to the church of Ephezen. And there John writes to the angel of the church (In Rev.20 Ephesians, (that's the messenger of that church) This is what He says, who holds the 7 stars in His right hand, (Those are the 7 messengers of the 7 churches) and He who is between the 7 golden candlesticks (these are called the 7 churches from Revelation 2 -3). I know your works and efforts and your endurance, and that you cannot bear the evil ones and have tested those who say they are apostles but are not, and that you have found them liars; and you have endured and endure because of my name you are not weary. But I have this against you that you have forsaken your first love. Then remember from what height you fell and repent and do your first works again. But if not, I will come to you and will take your candlestick from its place if you do not repent. Verse 6: But (and then comes an encouragement) this is what you have, that you hate the works of the Nicolaitans (that were bribes, deceivers, false teachers) and those works that I also hate, says the Lord. But WHERE did that church in Ephesians actually come from?

Of course we also have the letter to the church of Ephezen, which contains very important subjects, which I will return to later in another recording. But where I want to look now is Acts 19, where the Ephesian church actually started. Paul traveling around and Paul coming to Ephesus. I want to read from Acts 19: 1 ... And while Apolos was at Corinth, it happened that Paul, after traveling through the upper countries, came to Ephesus and found some disciples there. And he said to them; DID YOU RECEIVE THE HOLY SPIRIT WHEN YOU CAME TO FAITH? But they said to Paul, We have not even heard that there is a Holy Spirit. And Paul asked them, In what then were you baptized? And they said in the baptism of John. And then we immediately see where this church started, there were about 12 disciples there, not the disciples that went with Jesus, James, John, etc., but these were 12 disciples who had come to repentance at the call that Johannes did. That was a baptism of repentance, a baptism of repentance of sins, and these were disciples of John. But John was the trailblazer for Jesus. That people would repent of their sins. John also referred to the Lord Jesus. And said, He (Jesus) who comes after me will baptize you with the Holy Spirit. I baptized you with water, but He who comes after me will baptize you with the Holy Spirit. And these were 12 disciples of John. And then when Paul asks, you received the Holy Spirit when you believed, they said, we have not even heard that there is a Holy Spirit.

And what happens here then? Today many people would criticize all kinds of baptisms. But here it says in the Bible, that's the word that God had written down inspired by the Holy Spirit to teach us. And Paul said into what then were you baptized? And they said in the baptism of John. But Paul said John baptized a baptism of repentance and told the people to believe in Him who came after him. They were not to believe in John but in the Lord Jesus, who would come afterwards. And when these disciples heard this, they were baptized in the name of Jesus. they were baptized in the name of Jesus. which is much criticized, at this time when young and old are being baptized again after meeting Jesus. They were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. So there is nothing wrong with it if you grow further, discover the truth of Jesus and get baptized again as an adult. Perhaps as a child you were sprinkled as a child at the choice of your parent. Someone said: Infant baptism is also a biblical baptism because we must become like the children ... And when we become like the children then we also accept the gift that Jesus gave, because God so loved the world that He was born His only one. Son gave so that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life. John 3:16. And Jesus also said, He who believes and is baptized will be saved. And when they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. And when Paul laid hands on them, and then we see another step again, when Paul laid hands on them, they received the Holy Ghost and the Holy Ghost come upon them. And they spoke in tongues (foreign, unknown) and prophesied. And it was about 12 men in all. And that is actually the beginning of the church in Ephesus.

Because these people went out and said what they had received. You cannot tell anything you have not received. That is why many people are not disciples but rather chair warmer or traditional churchgoers. Even though God is happy when people go to church. But He is looking for people who want to know Him, who want to learn from Him, who want to be disciples of the Lord Jesus and who want to follow Him. Want to follow in His footsteps, and who want to say, Lord Jesus, what do You want me to do today. What do You want to do through me, I want to be a vessel for You, I want to be a channel for Your blessing, so that your glory, glory, become visible in this world. That's the great thing when you are baptized with the Holy Ghost. And that's what happened here in Acts 19 when Paul laid hands on them. And Paul went to the synagogue, he didn't hang with those 12 people. But went to the synagogue as he used to. And acted boldly there for 3 months to convince them through discussions about the kingdom of God. I sometimes hear people say we cannot convince others, but Paul was here for 3 months to convince the people in the synagogue about the Kingdom of God. And was he only busy with the New Testament? No, he convinced them of the Old Testament because the New Testament did not exist yet. Paul quoting from prophecy that Jesus was the  prophesyd / prommised Messiah, that He must come, that He must suffer, we read that in Isaiah 53 etc. That He must suffer, die and rise from the dead and that His sacrifice is a perfect sacrifice. And that He announced the Kingdom of God and that the Kingdom of God had come. And when people enter that Kingdom, they go through the Door, Jesus said, I am the Door, and whoever comes in through Me will have Eternal Life, he will be cleansed, he will be forgiven, he will becom a whole new creation. turn into. And that is the great thing when we listen to the gospel. And the people in Ephesus, these first disciples, they went on with that too ... But when some of the others remained hardened in the synagogue and began to speak evil before the crowd about the Kingdom that Paul was preaching about, about the Way, about Jesus. Paul broke away from them and separated his disciples. Paul took care of his disciples and separated them from those people who continued to speak evil about the Way Jesus which is the Way, the Truth and the Life and that you can be saved through Jesus. Maybe those critics just thought

if some religions then you have a stolen Jesus. Because there people think that you must be given that .. by first keeping the laws and rules. But when we preach the law, there comes a covering over the people. We must speak of grace and the Way of Jesus Christ when we tell others about Jesus. And that's great. But Paul separated these disciples and went on. He did not hang with those people who were negative, he did not hang between people for 10-15 years where this disciple could not grow spiritually. Where he couldn't make more disciples. He had been trying to convince people for 3 months. To tell people about Jesus, but if people remain hardened then you go a step further. That is sad sometimes, because you want all people to be converted, because that is the desire of God. God says in 2 Peter 3: 9 that He does not want some to perish, but that all come to the recognition of the truth. That all come to repentance. That was also Paul's desire and you can see that in Ephesus. That he persisted and made an effort to reach people with the gospel. So he went on into another hall and separated his disciples. In Acts 19: 9-10 we read that he gave daily discussions / teaching in the hall of Tyrannes. And this went on for 2 years. So that all in (the then known) Asia heard the word of God. Jews as well as Greeks and God worked extraordinary powers by the hands of Paul so that cloths of sweat and girdles were also brought from Paul's body to the sick, so that ailments departed from them and the evil spirits were driven from them. There was power of the Holy Spirit. There was power from God. No human power, no visualization and all kinds of ideas from people. No New Age conditions, no there was power of the Holy Spirit and that is also the promise that Jesus gave to every follower of His: You shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has comes upon you, and you shall be My witnesses. And that also happened to the first disciples in Acts 1: 8, 2: 3 and here in Ephesians Acts 19: 5-6. And that was the beginning of the church in Ephesus. I want to go on next time about the church at Ephesus how it went there. There is much to read in the letter to the Ephesians. We read about that that the church is the body of Christ. That Christ is the head of the church. He gives all kinds of weapons to the church, the armor ... Instructions and directions about the way of life for the Christian and the congregation. I want to go into that in a next recording. The Lord bless you, amen.
